Travel & Accommodation

Where is Halton?

Halton Region is located less than an hour’s drive from Toronto and Niagara.  The Region covers over 967 square km, including 25 km of frontage on Lake Ontario. It is comprised of the City of Burlington and the towns of Oakville, Milton, and Halton Hills.

What can you tell us about the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere?

The route for Epic Tour starts, finishes and crosses the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.   The Escarpment is an internationally recognized landform and is the cornerstone of Ontario’s Greenbelt.  A landscape of rich biodiversity, the Escarpment is home to hundreds of Ontario’s Species at Risk, vital watersheds, agricultural areas and 450-million year old geological history.

Much of the Escarpment corridor is forested and crosses two major biomes: boreal needle leaf forests in the north and temperate broadleaf forests in the south. The biosphere reserve also includes wetland complexes, cliff faces, slopes and aquatic ecosystems.

We like exploring nature. What does Halton Region offer?

Halton is home to part of the world-renowned Bruce Trail.  The trail follows the edge of the Niagara Escarpment.  Halton is also home to six conservation areas including Crawford Lake, Mountsberg, Rattlesnake Point, Hilton Falls, Kelso and Mount Nemo.

Hiking, mountain biking, farm visits and waterfront exploration are features of an area that is rich in opportunities for entertainment, recreation, education, relaxation and fun.

I am traveling from far away and don’t want to bring my own bike. Can I rent a bike somewhere?

Yes, you can rent a bicycle from a number of retailers in the area.  We recommend any of of the Gears locations across the GTA.
