COURSE

WHERE CAN I SEE THE COURSE MAPS?

Select the relevant page for the race you are entering from the ATHLETES option in the menu bar. When available the maps will appear there.

WHAT NUTRITION WILL BE AVAILABLE ON COURSE?

There will be aid stations along the bike course offering:

  • Electrolyte Drink
  • Water
  • Gels
  • Bananas

WHERE DOES THE TRIATHLON TAKE PLACE?

Beginning in 1991, The Great White North Triathlon has taken place in Stony Plain Alberta, located just minutes away from Edmonton. The race begins with a swim in Hubbles Lake at Allan Beach Resort. Next, athletes will embark on a challenging bike through Parkland County that has some rollers and a couple steep climbs at the turnaround point. Participants will then finish with a run through Stony Plains scenic residential areas and beautiful trail system.

ENTRY

IS THERE A WAITING LIST FOR THE RACES WHEN THEY ARE SOLD OUT?

Yes, There will be a waiting list form to fill out on the registration page if you are interested in being put on a waiting list.

HOW DO I ENTER THE RACE?

Registration opens on September 1st, you can enter by clicking on the register link on the website. The race typically sells out by October 1st every year.

WHAT IS THE REFUND / WITHDRAWAL POLICY?

Please refer to Platinum Racing’s Policy Page.

CAN FAMILY MEMBERS / FRIENDS CHECK ME IN OR PICK-UP MY RACE PACK?

No, only registered athletes are allowed to pick up packages. Please bring your photo ID and ATA card during designated check-in hours.

RACE WEEK EVENTS

WILL MY ENTRY INCLUDE CARBO LOAD TICKETS?

Yes. All athletes receive complimentary entry into the Welcome Dinner, although you must check the box that you will be attending during your registration.

APPROVED HELMETS

All athletes must wear a CSA approved helmet

WHAT IS THE AGE GROUP BREAKDOWN?

The Age Groups are broken into 10 year increments. Please see the relevant Race page for more info.

WHAT ARE THE AGE REQUIREMENTS?

All athletes must be at least 18 years of age on race day.

WHAT AGE GROUP WILL I RACE IN ON RACE DAY

All age group athletes must compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete’s age on the date of this years race.

WHAT CATEGORIES ARE OFFERED?

Professional / Elite, Age Group, Relay, and Paralympic

CAN A RELAY TEAM ENTER?

Yes there is a TEAM division in the Long Course. This consists of 2 or 3 athletes competing as a team.

WHAT ARE THE WETSUIT RESTRICTIONS?

Wetsuits are not mandatory but strongly recommended

ARE DISK WHEELS ALLOWED?

Yes, disk wheels are allowed.

TIMING

WHAT ARE THE COURSES CUT OFF TIMES?

Long Course Event:
Swim: 1 hour and 10 minutes after start.
Bike: 5 hours and 30 minutes after the start.
Run: 8 hours after the start.

*The race will officially end 8 hours after the official start.

Olympic Distance Event:
Swim: 
50 minutes after start.
Bike: 
12:30pm
Run:

Duathlon Event:
1st Run:

I DIDN’T RETURN MY TIMING CHIP, WHERE DO I RETURN IT?

They are expensive, please contact us to arrange drop off at tom@platinumracing.ca

SPECTATOR INFORMATION

WILL I BE ALLOWED TO CROSS THE FINISH LINE WITH MY ATHLETE?

Friends and/or family members are permitted to cross the finish line and enter the finish chute with participating athletes. Please be courteous to other athletes that will be in the chute at the same time as you and remember to smile for your photo.

CAN I TAKE MY CAR ON THE RACE COURSE TO WATCH MY ATHLETE?

No, the race course is closed to spectator traffic. But there are many roads that can take you to junctions to cheer on your athlete.

GENERAL

WHERE WILL LOST AND FOUND BE LOCATED DURING THE EVENT?

Lost and Found items will be available at the Awards ceremony. It is recommended that you mark your gear with your race number as Great White North is not responsible for lost items.
